Smart Sensing Devices Are Reshaping Human-Centered Research & Forming New Product Portfolios
In the rapidly evolving landscape of smart technology, the future of AI-sensor devices holds vast potential to revolutionize how we interact with our environment. As we stand on the cusp of a new era, these devices are poised to seamlessly integrate into our daily lives, enhancing efficiency, convenience, and safety.
With sensors infused with artificial intelligence, these devices can perceive, interpret, and respond to their surroundings with unprecedented accuracy and adaptability, ushering in a future where wearables and our environments are connected and intuitively responsive to our needs and desires. From smart homes to autonomous vehicles to even common everyday objects, the possibilities are limitless, promising a future where AI-censored devices serve as indispensable companions in our pursuit of human understanding, progress, and innovation.
Smart sensing devices can shape future product strategies with human-centered behavior data acquisition at the core. SES Force-4 works with clients to envision smart sensing devices as early research platforms and to create future product portfolios. Key competencies include:

IoT Meets Maslow
SES Force-4 has focused on delivering valuable data insights and invested in harnessing sensor technology aided by machine learning and AI in various categories, from industrial products and healthcare devices to smart devices and everyday consumer items. This supports our client’s unique needs in market learning and product expansion, as well as our isolation of unique market opportunities to invest and, in essence, put our money where our mouth is.
Otto is an SES Force4 venture in partnership with a major ladder brand six years in the making. We saw an opportunity in the market to bring game-changing worker safety to an everyday worksite necessity: the ubiquitous (A-frame) step ladder.
Otto technology embedded into step ladders collects data on use at construction sites, manufacturing facilities, etc. One such pilot was a 20-week duration in a high-rise construction site. Collecting data provided behavior insights, ultimately reducing accidents, injuries, and deaths. According to the CDC, in the U.S., “more than 100 people die and thousands more are injured from ladder-related falls” each year. The derivative data enables improvements in user situational awareness and behaviors that will benefit the users and save companies money on insurance claims and legal actions resulting from accidents.
Previously, all safety data was post-event related, reporting only what caused the fall. Otto analyzes pre-event behavior to create real-time warnings for users that deliver a substantially safer environment.
Data from Otto Ladders showed a 30% change in corrective behavior with users.
To quote Mike Johnson, Principal and Medical Device Lead, “We can manage millions of lines of code. In short, we are delivering the following expertise across a range of business categories:”
- Foundational understanding of the context of use.
- Design and create the device.
- Process data outcomes.
- Deliver usable data and insights.
- Manage multiple layers of users.
SES Force-4’s capability to develop data insights is ideal for companies looking for what’s next in the market and those looking for incremental improvements to give them a competitive edge.
